Planetcast acquires BroadStream to expand media technology portfolio

Planetcast has acquired BroadStream Solutions, adding integrated playout, captioning, subtitling and broadcast workflow products to its media technology portfolio.

BroadStream will form the basis of a new Products Division within Planetcast, combining its software products with Planetcast’s global media services and content distribution infrastructure. The company says the move will allow broadcasters and content owners to build and manage linear, streaming and hybrid media workflows more efficiently.

The acquisition brings BroadStream’s OASYS Integrated Playout platform together with products for time delay, captioning, subtitling and accessibility workflows.

Sanjay Bhat, chief executive of Planetcast, said the deal expanded the company’s product capabilities alongside its global services business, creating opportunities to integrate content preparation, playout, localisation, streaming and distribution.

BroadStream chief executive David Bowes will lead the new Products Division, overseeing product strategy, development and go-to-market activities.

Bowes said joining Planetcast would provide BroadStream with greater global reach and resources while enabling it to introduce additional capabilities to existing customers and expand into new markets.
